HC issues notice to Home Secy, DGP over Baddi SP Ilma Afroz’s posting
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed for the immediate posting of Ilma Afroz as Baddi SP, the HP High Court has issued notice to Home Secretary and Director General of Police, seeking their clarification on the matter. A Division Bench, comprising Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Rakesh Kainthla, issued these orders after the preliminary hearing of the petition filed by Sucha Ram.
It may be mentioned that Baddi SP Ilma Afroz had proceeded on a long leave following an alleged confrontation with the local MLA. However, she joined at Police Headquarters on December 16 and is awaiting orders to resume duty as the Baddi SP.
The petitioner, while urging the high court to issue appropriate orders in this matter, said the posting of Ilma Afroz in Baddi would make the general public feel safe, besides ensuring action against drug and mining mafia in the area. The petitioner stated that SP Ilma Afroz, during her posting, had enforced the rule of law and implemented the directions issued by the NGT as well as all the orders passed by the high court. Therefore, she should be posted as the Baddi SP in wider public interest, the petitioner added.
The petitioner said as per an earlier order issued by the high court on September 9, SP Ilma Afroz could be not transferred without the permission of the court.
