HC Judge lays stress on creating drug-free society

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority jointly organised a Legal Literacy Outreach Camp in Bilaspur on Sunday. Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, a Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh and Executive Chairperson of the State Legal Services Authority, presided over the programme while Justice Romesh Verma and Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj were special guests.

Justice Vivek Thakur stressed on creating a drug-free society and promoting environmental responsibility for well-being of the planet. He said that society should step forward to support families affected by natural disasters in the state.

Justice Vivek Thakur said that the Constitution was established to ensure access to justice for every individual in the country and society. He added that the Legal Services Authority was fulfilling its responsibility in this direction. He asserted that in the fight against addiction, parents and teachers played an important role because there were many things that could not be enforced by law and could only be achieved through values and culture.

Justice Vivek Thakur expressed serious concern over the increasing frequency of natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh and interacted with disaster-affected families. He reaffirmed the support of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh through its relief fund, which had played a crucial role in providing timely assistance. He emphasised the need for transparent and sincere implementation of government rehabilitation schemes to ensure benefits reach genuine deserving persons.

Justice Vivek Thakur acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Legal Services Authority volunteers, who continue to spread legal awareness among communities. Member Secretary Ranjit Singh, Jyotsna Sumant Dadhwal, District and Sessions Judge, Bilaspur, other Judicial officers, district administration officials, members of the legal fraternity, students, panchayat representatives, Mahila Mandals, self-help groups, anganwari and ASHA workers and disaster-affected families were also present on the occasion.
