The Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken note of a serious environmental concern raised by residents of Lippa village in Kinnaur district, where a lake has formed following heavy rain on September 4.
According to the petition, two nullahs got blocked by debris and muck allegedly discharged by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), resulting in the formation of the lake.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma treated the letter as a PIL and issued notices to the authorities concerned, including the HPPCL.
The court directed the Deputy Commissioner, Kinnaur, to take immediate measures considering the urgency of the situation. The court granted time till October 16 to the authorities to file a status report.
