The Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, in collaboration with the Health Department, recently organised a free health check-up camp for workers at the under-construction Shivalik Hydro Power Project at Koonr in Chamba.

During the camp, 88 workers were screened for various health conditions — including blood pressure issues, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, syphilis and tuberculosis. Free medications were also provided to those in need.

Speaking about the initiative, District Labour Welfare Officer Shweta Kumari highlighted the importance of such health camps in ensuring essential healthcare services reach unorganised sector workers at their doorstep.

She said such camps aimed to create awareness about health issues among workers and promote wellbeing in their communities.

Kumari informed workers about various welfare schemes run by the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, encouraging them to take advantage of these benefits.

Health officials — including Dr Shiv Singh, Pooja Dhawan and Bharti Jasrotia — were present to conduct health check-ups and assist workers during the event.

Kumari said such free health check-up camps were organised regularly across the district, and would soon be extended to other areas to benefit more workers.
