Heavy rain revives cold conditions in Himachal

Heavy rain lashed most parts of Himachal, causing a sharp fall in the maximum temperature which dropped five to seven degree and stayed eight to 14 degree below normal during the peak summer.
People, who used to sweat under sun, were forced to use woollens and sit near fireplace to beat the cold. The maximum temperature, which rose above 35 degree a few days ago, plummeted. Una, which touched the 43.3 degree mark last week, recorded a high of 27.2 degree, 12 degree below
normal while Nahan recorded the maximum temperature at 27.2 degree while Shimla and Bhuntar recorded 18.5 degree and 17.4 degree followed by Sundernagar 25.5 degree, Solan
23.5 degree and Dharamsala 23.2 degree.
Sundernagar was the wettest with 99 mm rain while Bilaspur received 87 mm, Bangana 80 mm and Shimla 79 mm rain, followed by Berthin 59 mm, Mehre 58 mm, Jubbarhatti 44 mm, Nadaun 40 mm, Dharamsala 37 mm, Gohar 36 mm and Fagu and Banjar 34 mm rain.
The minimum temperature also dropped by two to three degree and Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of 6.9 degree and 7.8 degree, followed by Manali 10.4 degree and Shimla 12.2 degree.
The MeT office has issued yellow warning of thunderstorm and lightning in mid hills tomorrow and predicted rain and thundershowers in mid hills and rain or snow in higher hills from June 1 to 6.
The region received 270.1 mm average rain against the normal rainfall of 226.6 mm, an excess of 19 per cent. All districts, barring Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur, which received 51 per cent and 47 per cent deficit rain.
