Shimla, February 21
A few places in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Chamba districts received heavy snowfall last night while most places received rain in the state. The places like Kothi and Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti received snowfall between half and one foot. In Kullu district, Solang and Atal Tunnel also received heavy snowfall. Rainfall was more widespread, with Manali recording the highest 29mm.
Meanwhile, the weather will be largely dry over the next two-three days. However, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from the night of February 24, resulting in rain/snow at a few places at higher altitudes on February 26-27.
Due to the past and the latest precipitation, 405 roads, including four national highways, are disrupted while 577 power distribution transformers are yet to be restored.
Most of the closed roads fall in Lahaul and Spiti (288) and Chamba (83) districts. In Lahaul and Spiti, two national highways — Gramphu-Losar and Darcha-Sarchu roads — are closed. In Kullu district, 83 roads are yet to be restored, including two national highways to Rohtang Pass and Jalori Jot. From Manali to Atal Tunnel, only 4x4 vehicles are being allowed. As for the power distribution transformers, most have been disrupted in Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts.
As per the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the total loss in the winter (from January 1 to February 21) has been recorded Rs 54.95 crore till date.
