Dharamsala, June 12

Rains that lashed the Kangra valley brought down temperatures in the region and enthralled the tourists who had come to the area in large numbers. There was heavy rush of tourists in the Dharamsala region this weekend and most of the hotels were packed to their capacity. Most of the tourists that came to the region were from adjoining Punjab and Chandigarh.

Vikas Nehria, a hotelier from Upper Dharamsala, said that it was after a long time that most of the hotels in the region ended up packed in the region. It was encouraging that tourists from the adjoining states were making beeline to the area, he said.

The hoteliers, however, said that most of the tourists were now coming to the region on weekends. In pre-Covid period the area used to be packed in the months of May and June. However, this year the tourist activity has remained limited to weekends. The hoteliers said the government should devise a policy for attracting tourists as Himachal was now facing challenge from other areassuch as Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
