The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for Mandi district from August 11 to the morning of August 14. A yellow alert is in place for August 11 and 13, while an orange alert has been issued for August 12 and 14, indicating the possibility of intense rainfall and related hazards.

In response, the district administration has gone on high alert, implementing full preparedness measures to address potential weather-related emergencies. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan said all departments concerned are on standby, ready to carry out relief and rescue operations if required. The administration is actively monitoring the situation and has put disaster response protocols into effect.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors during severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel and keep away from rivers, streams and low-lying areas prone to flooding and landslides. The DC stressed the importance of following official advisories and cooperating with authorities.

“In case of any emergency, the public can contact the District Disaster Management Control Room on the toll-free number 1077 or 01905-226201,” Devgan said.

The IMD explains that a yellow alert signals potentially severe weather, urging preparedness, while an orange alert warns of more intense conditions requiring immediate response by both citizens and authorities.

Mandi, situated in a geographically fragile zone, is prone to landslides, flash floods, and road blockages during the monsoon. With weather patterns growing increasingly unpredictable, the administration’s proactive stance aims to reduce risks and safeguard lives and property.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid panic, and stay updated through official channels to ensure their safety during the alert period.
