A July 8 order of the High Court restraining the relocation of Block Development Office from Nagrota Surian to Jawali in Kangra district was finally implemented on Thursday after 44 days.
The residents of the Nagrota Surian area, who had launched an agitation and resorted to 27-day relay fast in June-end under the banner of ‘Save Nagrota Surian Development Block Sangarsh Samiti’ heaved a sigh of relief after the office was relocated.
As per information, the Block Development Officer and other staff joined the office at Nagrota Surian and submitted compliance report to the department official concerned.
The Director, Rural Development, had directed the local Block Development Officer to shift the Block Development Office back to Nagrota Surian from Jawali on August 18 in pursuance of the order of the High Court. In an official communiqué, the director has stated that on August 1 his office had given clear directions to comply with the stay order granted by the High Court.
It may be mentioned that the office, which was functional at Nagrota Surian in Jawali Assembly constituency for over five decades, was ordered to be relocated to Jawali by the state government. The decision had sparked off a strong backlash from residents.
