High Court: Submit details of Covid hospital inspection experts

Legal Correspondent

Shimla, August 19

The High Court today directed the government to furnish the particulars of members of the expert committee constituted for the inspection and supervision of hospitals dedicated to Covid patients.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice L Narayana Swamy and Justice Anoop Chitkara passed these orders on a petition filed by Nareshwar Singh Chandel, who has alleged that though the government was taking preventive measures for the containment of Covid-19, these are not sufficient considering its wildfire-like spread. He has suggested various measures to handle the situation and prayed to direct the respondents to implement the measures and submit report to this effect to the court. He has also prayed for the appointment of an expert committee of doctors and executives to monitor the situation.

During the course of hearing, the counsel for the petitioner furnished a copy of the order passed on June 19, 2020, by the apex court in a suo motu writ petition regarding the proper treatment of Covid patients and dignified handling of bodies in the hospitals.

It was stated on behalf of the government that Himachal Pradesh has already constituted a committee. After hearing the contention of both parties, the court listed the matter for further hearing on September 1.
