Power supply lines have turned death traps in the district and claimed four lives in the last one month. A14-year-old Nepalese girl was killed after she came in contact with high-tension power transmission lines crossing over the roof of the house she lived in, two days ago. Two HT lines cross the town and many people had constructed houses under these wires. Three more persons were reportedly killed at different locations in the district due to electrocution said the District Disaster Management Authority, yesterday.

Rakesh Kumar of ward number 2 in the town said in the rainy season, the chances of getting trapped in the electromagnetic fields increase as roofs remain wet and broken power lines also fall on these. He added that construction of multi-storey buildings below the power lines also added to the problem.

14-yr-old girl electrocuted two days ago

A 14-year-old Nepalese girl was killed after she came in contact with high-tension power transmission lines crossing over the roof of the house she lived in two days ago. The wires have claimed four lives in the last one month.

Meanwhile, officials of the Police Department and Himchal Pradesh State Electricity Board convened an emergency meeting after the death of the girl and decided to identify sensitive and vulnerable spots in the town. The meeting was attended by Bagat Singh Thakur, Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Sharma Additional Superintendent of Police, Manish Soni, SDM, Ajmer Singh, Executive Officer of Municipal Committee, NP Abrol, Executive Engineer of HPSEB, and Saurabh Rai, SDO, HPSEB, were present at the meeting.

NP Abrol, XEN, said it was decided that necessary action would be initiated after identifying sensitive buildings and locations. He added that the building owners would be suggested safety measures so that such accidents could be averted. Ajmer Thakur said the building owners must adhere to norms while constructing buildings in the town.
