Highest Achiever State award for HP in hydropower
Himachal was honoured with the prestigious ‘Highest Achiever State in Overall Hydropower Capacity’ Award at the Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, today.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Thakur and MLA Neeraj Nayyar received the award on behalf of the government from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.
“This recognition validates our efforts to make Himachal Pradesh a ‘green energy state’ by March 31, 2026,” said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He added that the government was taking rapid strides to make Himachal Pradesh ‘a green energy’ state by March 31, 2026.
Sukhu said, “The government is focusing on harnessing hydropower and renewable energy. The 32 MW Pekhubela solar power plant has become operational in record six months and two more solar power projects of 10 MW in Kutlehar and 5 MW at Bhanjal will be dedicated to people soon.” He added these projects would help reduce carbon emission and dependency on fossil fuels.
Sukhu said the government was promoting electric vehicles and petrol and diesel vehicles were being phased out in its departments. He added that green industries were being promoted in a big way to save the environment.
He said the government was successfully implementing various policies and programmes that would make Himachal a self-reliant and prosperous state.
