About 500 saplings were planted under the miyawaki plantation which is a Japanese method of raising dense urban forest in a small area. “Under this technique four to five species of indigenous plants are raised in one square meter area. It does not require maintenance and plants attain full length in three years. The plants absorb dust and regulate surface temperature in the process,” said Abdul Basit, Regional Officer, NHAI, Shimla.

The participants exhibited enthusiasm in planting saplings. Project Director Anand Kumar, Joint Advisor Plantation Shamsher Negi, Plantation Manager Sneha Singh, AERIF Company Managing Director Gunjan Moga, were present on the occasion.

Saplings of silver oak, chestnut, bottlebrush, melia, albezia, jacaranda, robinia and chestnut were planted on the occasion.
