A 16-week training programme on agroforestry, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping and goatry for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and equivalent ranks of the Indian Armed Forces commenced at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSKHPKV), Palampur. The programme will run until December 12, 2025.
The inaugural function was graced by chief guest Lt Col Satyajeet Ahlawat, who expressed gratitude to the university for conducting such programmes for armed forces personnel. He highlighted their significance in preparing participants for sustainable livelihood opportunities after service.
Sponsored by the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), New Delhi, the programme is being organised by the Directorate of Extension Education, CSKHPKV. This marks the third resettlement training initiative of the university in 2025, reaffirming its commitment to capacity-building and livelihood generation for service personnel. A total of 20 participants have joined the course, including 12 from the Army, five from the Air Force and three from the Navy.
Dr Vinod Sharma, Director of Extension Education, welcomed the participants, while Training In-charge Dr Lav Bhushan outlined the programme’s objectives, structure and expected outcomes. In his message, Vice-Chancellor Prof Naveen Kumar lauded the initiative, underlining the university’s mission to empower service personnel with scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial skills aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Dean, College of Agriculture, Dr MC Rana, emphasised the potential of integrating enterprises like agroforestry, mushroom farming and beekeeping to create sustainable and profitable livelihood models. Similarly, the Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Dr AK Panda, highlighted the growing importance of goatry in ensuring nutritional security and meeting the rising demand for goat milk.
All Heads of Departments and scientists associated with the training attended the inaugural session and assured full support in providing hands-on training and guidance. The programme ultimately aims to equip participants with the skills, confidence and entrepreneurial drive to establish viable ventures after their service to the nation.
