Himachal assembly erupts: ‘Corruption’ row sparks pandemonium, house adjourned

Following pandemonium in the the Vidhan Sabha over conflicting views on the use of unparliamentary and objectionable words, Speaker Kuldeep Pathania adjourned the house till 2 pm.

Trouble broke out when Speaker said the word corruption cannot be used unless it is backed with proof. He expunged aspersions cast on the previous BJP regime on grant of concessions given to investors from the house record.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged the Speaker not to expunge the remarks made by him on grant of concessions by previous BJP regime. CM said the government has proof of the irregularities.

Giving his ruling, Speaker said he will run the house as per Rules. “Contemptuous charges made by MLA’s without reference to rules will not be allowed. Indecent words which are provocative and create tension will not be part of the record, “ Speaker said.

Speaker also rejected the Privilege notice given by Sudhir Sharma against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He said Sudhir had written to him with no proof.

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur objected to aspersions being cast in his regime on grant if customised package to investors.

As there was an uproar in the house, the Speaker adjourned the house.
