Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday expressed gratitude to the people for powering the Congress to a 2-1 victory and rejecting the BJP’s alleged politics of money and horse trading in the bypolls for three Assembly constituencies of Dehra, Nalagarh and Hamirpur.
The Congress has won the Dehra and the Nalagarh constituency, while the BJP has pocketed the Hamirpur seat. “It’s the victory of the people. They have given a befitting reply to the BJP who tried to topple the elected government,” said Sukhu.
The Chief Minister sounded quite pleased about the party’s win in the Dehra Assembly constituency, where his wife Kamlesh Thakur has snapped the long losing streak of the party. “We had not won in the Dehra Assembly constituency for the last 25 years. The party high command gave the ticket to Kamlesh Thakur and she has won the seat,” said Sukhu.
Sukhu said the Congress had won 40 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections, and the party was back at the same number. “The people have given a befitting reply to the political conspiracies hatched by the BJP. I want to thank the people of the state for rejecting the BJP’s politics of money and horse trading, and ending the political disturbance the state has been in since February 28,” he said.
