Himachal CM Sukhu launches home-based palliative care initiative

The Chief Minister flagged off a vehicle equipped with a dedicated team comprising a palliative care-trained doctor, a sociologist, and a nurse. This team will deliver compassionate care under the Pain and Palliative Cell established at IGMC Shimla’s Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the Cipla Foundation and CanSupport India.

“This reflects the government’s commitment to accessible and compassionate healthcare. The team will work closely with IGMC physicians to address the medical, social, and psychological needs of patients, ensuring a holistic approach to their well-being,” said Sukhu.

Patients will receive medicines and dressing kits free of cost, and the service will initially cater to individuals within a 40-km radius of IGMC Shimla. Sukhu added that this programme marks a significant step in delivering specialised care and comfort to terminally ill patients in their homes.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh and other dignitaries were present during the launch.
