Shimla, April 20
The Himachal Government has decided to restrict wedding gatherings to 50 people and impose a five-day workweek in the state—measures that come in the middle of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic that claimed 13 lives and caused 1,700 infections on Monday.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur chaired on Tuesday to discuss possible measures they could take to contain the virus that has already crippled several parts of the country since these past few weeks.
The decision also leaves open the possibility of a weekend lockdown in the state.
Some of the other decisions taken on Tuesday are a complete ban on political and government events, closing down temples to pilgrims after the Navratras, and restricting people on public transport to half capacity.
Several overnight and long-distance buses of the Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation have already been indefinitely been cancelled.
