In a continued show of solidarity with those affected by recent natural calamities in Himachal Pradesh, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday flagged off three pickup vehicles loaded with essential relief materials from Raj Bhavan.
The relief consignments — dispatched via the State Red Cross Society — are destined for the district administrations of Mandi and Kullu. Each vehicle carries critical household supplies, including family tents, tarpaulins, kitchen sets, blankets, new clothes, bed sheets, mattresses and other essentials aimed at offering immediate relief to families devastated by cloudbursts and landslides.
Addressing the occasion, Governor Shukla expressed serious concern over the growing frequency of natural disasters in the state. “The recurring incidents of cloudbursts and related calamities in Himachal Pradesh are deeply worrying. We must reconsider our lifestyle and make adjustments to coexist with nature more harmoniously,” he urged.
The Governor also shared that he had recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the situation. “The Prime Minister expressed his concern and assured all possible support. Appropriate relief measures will follow once the Central team’s assessment report is finalised. The Centre has always stood by Himachal Pradesh in times of crisis,” Shukla stated.
This is not the first time Raj Bhavan has extended logistical support. “Earlier, we sent three pickup vehicles to Mandi. Today, we’re dispatching three more — two to Mandi and one to Kullu. If the need arises, additional consignments will be arranged,” the Governor assured. He also announced plans to personally visit affected regions. “Tomorrow, I will visit Thunag and the Seraj region to meet with disaster-hit families and assess the ground realities,” he added.
