Himachal Governor flags off anti-drug campaign in Dodra-Kwar

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla flagged off an anti-drug rally in the remote Dodra-Kwar region, urging people to unite in the fight against the growing drug menace. During his visit, the Governor stressed the importance of vigilance and active community participation to combat drug abuse. He was accompanied by Lady Governor Janaki Shukla.

This marked the first-ever visit by a sitting Governor to Dodra-Kwar. The local residents welcomed him with traditional hospitality, and cultural programs were organised in his honour in both Dodra and Kwar. The Governor also enjoyed local cuisine and praised the warmth and generosity of the people.

Despite heavy rain, villagers gathered in large numbers at the Jal Shakti Guest House in Kwar to meet the Governor. He held an extended interaction with them, discussing the drug issue and listening to their grievances.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Shukla expressed concern over drug traffickers now targeting rural youth. “This is a serious issue. We must protect our young generation from synthetic psychotropic drugs, which are replacing traditional narcotics,” he said.

Calling Himachal both Devbhoomi and Virbhoomi, he warned that the drug menace threatens the state’s cultural and moral fabric. “That is why I am personally visiting even the remotest corners—to awaken society and inspire a collective response,” he added.

He lauded local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta’s commitment to spreading awareness across his constituency. The Governor also made a special appeal to women, saying, “Women have the power to bring meaningful change, and their involvement will make this campaign more effective.”
