A three-day state-level tribal festival is set to take place from August 14 to 16 in Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul Spiti district.

The preparations and organisational strategies for the event were discussed in a meeting chaired by Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar yesterday.

The DC said the primary objective of the festival is to promote the folk culture and natural heritage of Lahaul Spiti. He said emphasis would be placed on fostering harmony between socio-economic development and environmental conservation.

The DC said efforts would be made to enhance livelihood opportunities for members of self-help groups through the Saras Mela, which would be a part of the festival. Social inclusion and development through the convergence of various governmental schemes are also key priorities.

During the meeting, the DC outlined the festival’s agenda, highlighting the participation of local artists and various tribal cultural groups.

Pre-festival activities, including sports events, are scheduled from August 11 to 13 to build anticipation among attendees.

To ensure the smooth execution of the event, the DC provided guidelines to the sub-committees responsible for different aspects of the festival. He stressed the importance of coordination among all sub-committees to ensure the event’s success.

The meeting was organised under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Sankalp Gautam. Keylong SDM Rajneesh Sharma, Udaipur SDM Keshav Ram, departmental officers, Panchayat representatives, and members from the Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association were present in the meeting.
