Shimla, January 17

Police constables fighting for the higher pay grade have again started boycotting meals in the mess to express their resentment against the indifferent attitude of the government towards their demands. About 5,700 constables recruited in 2015 and afterwards are demanding the grant of 10,300+3,200 pay scale after two years instead of eight years.

After the state government assured to look into their demands and the DGP constituted a committee the constables had stopped showing resentment publicly but even after lapse of one-and-a- half months no positive development has taken place. Hence, the constables have again stopped taking food in the mess. However, this time it is not recorded it in Roznamacha (daily police diary).

Accusing the state government of causing delay, the constables said that it seemed that the government was waiting for the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission, which had done away with this pay scale.

The constables have reportedly taken a collective decision not to take food in the mess and grievances are being aired in social media through #justiceforhppolice. A large number of posts have appeared in the social media supporting the demand of constables and the family members of the constables took to the social media.

The constables appointed in 2013 in the pay scale of Rs 5,910+1,900 were released 10,300+3,200 pay scales after two years but the period was increased to eight years for constables recruited in 2015 and thereafter, which is discriminatory and unjustified, they alleged.
