Himachal Pradesh CM gives Dec 2025 deadline for green hydrogen plant construction

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu today reviewed the progress of the 1 MW capacity green hydrogen plant under construction in Nalagarh of Solan district.

Sukhu, while presiding over a meeting with senior officers of the Energy Department, directed them to expedite the construction work and ensure that the tender for the project was awarded at the earliest. He set the deadline for the completion of the plant by the end of 2025.

He said that the state government was committed to making Himachal a green energy state by March 31, 2026. “The green hydrogen plant will be a milestone in achieving this ambitious goal. The demand for green hydrogen is rising across industries, as it offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels, particularly in sectors like transportation, manufacturing and energy storage,” he added.

Sukhu said, “By producing green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions, the project will play a crucial role in de-carbonising industries and energy systems, thereby contributing to environmental conservation.” He added that green hydrogen significantly reduced the emission of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and particulate matter, which improves air quality and protects ecosystems.

He said his government had prioritised environment conservation and implemented several initiatives for a cleaner and greener state.

Sukhu said he had laid the foundation stone for a pilot project of the green hydrogen mobility station in Chamba to be completed at an estimated cost Rs 14 crore. Furthermore, a 32 MW solar power plant had already been established at Pekhubela in Una district and two more plants were expected to become operational in the next six months. He directed the department to intensify efforts to enhance solar energy harnessing across the state.
