Dilshad Mohammad, 36, a Gujjar of Bangarh in Una, committed suicide this morning allegedly after being insulted by fellow villagers for spreading coronavirus. Dilshad’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of his room.
Local police in charge, Rakesh Kumar said Dilshad was taken to the Una regional hospital on April 2 as he had come in contact with two persons who attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi. He tested negative for Covid-19 and was dropped back home.
Dilshad’s mother said some villagers insulted her son. “He could not take the insults. After namaaz in the morning, he went inside his room. We broke open the door and found his body hanging from the roof.”
His wife Amardeep Kaur said though her husband had tested negative for Covid-19, some villagers stopped taking milk from them. “My husband never visited Delhi. He could not take the humiliation.”
Una SP Karthikeyan said a case had been registered under Section 174 of the IPC and the charges by the family were being probed.
