Himachal Pradesh museum in Shimla to undergo retrofitting: DC
Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap chaired a meeting to review disaster mitigation proposals under the disaster management system here today. He stated that the Shimla district administration has proposed retrofitting of the state museum located at Chaura Maidan in light of an earthquake threat.
During the meeting, the DC said Dr Hemant Vinayak, associate professor at the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, had been appointed as an expert for the project. He directed the officials concerned to collaborate with the expert and prepare a detailed report on the project so that the retrofitting of the building can commence at the earliest.
He added that as part of disaster mitigation, a plant nursery was being developed for soil conservation. “These plants will be used for soil conservation at locations prone to landslides during the rainy season,” he said.
The DC also said that in case of a disaster causing a road closure in the town, there was no alternative route available. He directed the PWD officials to conduct a thorough study for constructing alternative routes so that proposals could be prepared soon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, executive engineer, PWD Praveen Verma, executive engineer Ravi Bhushan and other officials were also present during the meeting.
