Himachal to receive heavy rain till August 15; orange and yellow warnings issued

Himachal Pradesh is set to receive a spell of heavy to very heavy rain till August 15 as the State’s Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts for various districts from August 11 onwards, resulting in enhanced rainfall activity across the state.

As per the State’s Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain and a few spells of heavy to very heavy rain are likely to occur across the state till August 15. During this period, maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C while minimum temperatures will remain normal.

On August 11, heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Kangra, Chamba and Mandi districts, for which an orange warning has been issued. Similarly, heavy rain is also likely at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Solan districts, for which a yellow weather warning has been issued.

On August 12, an orange weather warning has been issued for Kangra, Chamba and Mandi districts, resulting in heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in these districts. Also, a yellow warning has been issued for Una, Bilaspur and Sirmaur, resulting in heavy rain in isolated places in these districts.

An orange alert has been issued for Kangra, Sirmaur and Mandi districts for August 13 and a yellow alert for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kullu and Shimla, and heavy rain is likely in these districts. For August 14, an orange weather warning has been issued for Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur and Mandi while a yellow warning has been issued for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan and Chamba.

Meanwhile, the state witnessed heavy rain at isolated places and light to moderate rain at many places during the past 24 hours.

Kangra received 68.4 mm rain, followed by Palampur 52 mm, Sarahan in Shimla district 25 mm, Dharamshala 16.8 mm, Kufri 11.2 mm, Bilaspur 10.4 mm, Kasauli 10 mm, Shimla 9 mm, Una 5.4 mm and Mandi 4.4 mm.
