Himachali team steals the show at national workshop on folk traditions

A 10-day national workshop aimed at highlighting India’s rich folk traditions and academic heritage was held at the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, brought together 65 teachers from 10 states, each presenting the unique folk culture of their regions.

Among the participants, Himachal Pradesh was represented by a dedicated team of teachers led by Gaurav, a TGT Sanskrit teacher from Government Middle School, Gatogda, hailing from Majhadi village in Naintikhar Panchayat of Pachhad subdivision, Sirmaur district. He was joined by Amarjeet from Kanda, Chandra Prakash from Panjpiplu, Kamalakant from Bangora and Khemchand from Chandpur in Solan district.

The Himachali team performed traditional folk dances and the famous Himachali nati, which received wide appreciation from participants across the country. Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav emphasised that Himachal’s folk culture can gain global recognition only when it is showcased on diverse platforms in India and abroad.

At the closing ceremony, the District Liaison Officer of Damoh felicitated the Himachali team with certificates of appreciation.
