Himachal’s first DGP IB Negi passes away
IB Negi, first DGP of Himachal Pradesh, passed away in Shimla today at the age of 92. He was born at Sangla village in Kinnaur on October 31, 1932. He was a 1958-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Over the course of his illustrious career, Negi had held numerous key positions in various capacities.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over Negi's demise. The CM said in his condolence message that Negi had served in various positions in the Police Department. He added that Negi was an outstanding police officer and his contribution to the police would always be remembered. He prayed to the almighty for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
"I was very sad to learn about his passing away. IB and I had spent many years together while serving on the frontiers," said NN Vohra, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor and retired bureaucrat. He was one of the most upright of my police colleagues, said Vohra while reminiscing Negi.
Negi had served as the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and held the position of SP of both Nainital and Lakhimpur Kheri. He had also served as SP (CID) at Lucknow and in paramilitary forces like the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), CISF and the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) in Arunachal Pradesh.
Negi played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Delhi Police Commissionerate in 1978. He had also served as the Deputy Director of the CRPF Academy, Mount Abu.
In 1988, Negi led an Indian delegation that took part in the Interpol Conference at Southeast Asia. Throughout his career, he was honoured with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service for his exemplary contributions. The Himachal Pradesh Police have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and offered prayers for eternal peace to the departed soul.
