Nurpur, February 2

In order to raise awareness of the significance of wetlands, the Himachal Pradesh Council of Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) today celebrated World Wetlands Day at Guglara in the Pong Wetland area in the Jawali subdivision of Kangra district. The programme was presided over by District Science Supervisor Manju Mahajan and senior scientific assistant Renu Jaswal. This year, the theme of the event was ‘Wetland and Human Wellbeing’.

Himachal Pradesh Wetland Authority officials gave the students detailed information about the conservation and the importance of wetlands. Lectures on avian influenza, vulture conservation, bird ringing and bird watching were delivered by the wildlife experts.

On this occasion, students of ten schools participated in various competitions based on the theme. In the senior category, Vibhuti of TPS school, Chalwara, won the first prize in painting competition. In the junior category, Nitin of DAV School, Chalwara, was declared first.
