As per the HIMUDA vice-chairperson Yashwant Chhajta, the posts have been abolished as part of the restructuring of the state government undertaking. “It has been done as part of the restructuring of the agency. All posts that were lying vacant have been abolished,” said Chhajta. “Most of the posts had become redundant and we would look to appoint JOA (IT) etc,” said Chhajta.

Mostly, the lower order posts like Senior Assistants (45), clerks (24), peons (44), beldar (71), work inspector (42) have been abolished. One or two posts have also been abolished at the level of engineers as well. The move is likely to cause resentment among the HIMUDA employees as it would affect their promotional opportunities.

The BJP, meanwhile, has termed the move against the unemployed youth of the state. “The government is shutting down the institutions providing employment, and is offering Rs 4,500 per month jobs to the youth,” said Rajeev Bindal, the state president of the BJP. He further alleged that while lower-level posts had been abolished, a post of advisor had been created to accommodate some higher-up. “Also, the HIMUDA division from Sirmaur district has been shifted,” he said.
