Hundreds of people associated with various Hindu outfits gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the state capital and carried out a rally to protest against the alleged atrocities and massacres of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh. The people demanded Bangladesh government to take action to immediately halt atrocities against the Hindu community.They also called on the Nobel Prize Committee to reconsider the 2006 Peace Prize awarded to Muhammad Yunus. Additionally, protesters urged the international community to initiate legal action against Yunus in the International Court of Justice and revoke his Nobel Peace Prize.

Participants voiced strong condemnation of the ongoing violence and urged immediate international action.

During the protest, Ajay Srivastava, State Coordinator, Defenders of Human Rights, said that since August 5, 2023, incidents of violence against Hindus had intensified in Bangladesh.

“Many Hindus have been killed, women have been subjected to sexual violence, and numerous Hindu temples have been destroyed. Hindu leaders and priests have also been arrested” he added.

He further said that the rally in Shimla was part of a statewide movement across Himachal Pradesh to raise awareness and send memorandums to relevant authorities.

Highlighting the contributions of the Indian in Bangladesh's liberation in 1971, he said that India played a crucial role played by India and its support for the Mukti Bahini and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, however, the same Hindu community is now being subjected to oppression and violence in Bangladesh.
