Hoteliers urge PM for financial package for Himachal tourism industry
Dharamsala, June 15
The Smart City Hotel Association of Dharamsala has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a package for the sagging tourism industry.
Deepak Diwan, president of the association, said the industry had suffered huge losses in two years due to Covid. Many hotels had turned defaulters and banks had moved to take over their properties.
Diwan said the hotel and tourism industry had requested the state government to give it some relief or waive annual fee and interests of banks for the lockdown period. Hoteliers had also demanded that the government should waive the property tax for hotels too. However, the state government had not accepted the demands.
“We now expect that the PM will help the reeling tourism industry of the state that is the biggest employer,” he said.
