Himachal Pradesh Board Examinations: Girls outshine boys in Class X results

Girls dominated the top positions in the Class X results declared by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education here today. A total of 77 students, including 67 girls, shared the top 10 positions. Out of these, 66 were from private schools and 11 from government schools.

Used to study five hours daily

Priyanka of Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Tattapani, in Mandi district and Devangi Sharma of Anglo Sanskrit Model Senior Secondary School, Mandi, jointly topped the exams by scoring 99 per cent (693/700).

The second position was bagged by Aditya Sankhyan of Saraswati Vidya Mandir High School, Hatwar, in Bilaspur district, who scored 98.86 per cent (692/700).

The third position was jointly bagged by Anshul Thakur of Saraswati Vidya Mandir High School, Mohin, in Mandi district and Siya Thakur of the MML Public School, Jalgran, in Una district, who scored 98.71 per cent (691/700).

The chairman of the education board, SK Soni, while talking to newsmen, said the pass percentage was 87.5. A total of 90,375 students appeared in the Class X exams of the HPSEB this year, out of which 78,573 passed, he said. He said the pass percentage, which used to be around 60 per cent in the Class X board examinations earlier, had improved to 87.5 per cent this year. He said this time, the students have done exceedingly well in the history examination. Earlier, the pass percentage in history used to remain at 70 to 80 per cent. This time, it has gone up to 93 per cent.
