In order to curb the increasing cybercrime cases in the state, the Himachal Pradesh Police is set to establish a state-of-the-art Cyber Forensic Lab named ‘i-crack’ (Investigation Aided Cyber Forensic Repository Analysis and Core Keyframe) soon.

The lab will be equipped with advanced technological tools and staffed by experts who will conduct in-depth investigations into cybercrimes and assist in apprehending criminals. A skilled team of specialists will be assigned to the i-crack lab. This team will analyse digital evidence, resolve various cybercrime cases and bring criminals to justice. Additionally, the lab will conduct cyber security awareness campaigns to help citizens understand how to protect themselves from cyber fraud.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) State CID Cybercrime Mohit Chawla said the primary goal of the i-crack Cyber Forensic Lab is to expedite the investigation process of cybercrimes in the state and take stringent action against cybercriminals. “The lab will also play a crucial role in preventing cybercrimes. Educating the public is a key component of this initiative as awareness is one of the most effective ways to prevent cybercrime,” he said.

The DIG said cybercrime cases are rapidly increasing in the country as well as the state as cybercriminals are using innovative methods for fraud and deception, causing significant losses to individuals and organisations. “In response to this growing challenge, the Himachal Pradesh Police Department has decided to come up with this initiative that will help in investigating and preventing cybercrimes in the state,” said the DIG.

He also advised people to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to cyber fraud. He also appealed the people to immediately report any incident of cybercrime on helpline number-1930.
