The state divyang women’s cricket team defeated the Delhi team by nine runs at the national T-20 games held at Ram Garh in Jharkhand, held December 30-31.
The team was accorded a rousing welcome at Bilaspur yesterday by Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadik.
He said the victory of the team was a matter of pride, not only for the state but also for the district as seven members of the team were from Bilaspur. At the final match, the state team scored 83 runs, batting first. The Delhi team could only manage to secure 74 runs in 20 overs, with the Himachal Pradesh clinching victory.
The DC said the district administration would provide every possible help to the players, and organise regular practice sessions for them. Team captain Rachna Kumari said the match was tough but interesting. The victory was collective effort of the team, she added, stating that the players would continue to practice for upcoming competitions.
The other team members from Bilaspur included Ranjana Thakur, Hemlata, Sapna Meena, Tripta Devi and Renu Kumari. Soma Devi from Hamirpur, Nisha Bhatia (vice-captain) from Kangra, Kanta and Jyoti from Kullu and Mala Bhagti from Kinnaur were also part of the team. The team defeated Odisha in the semi-finals.
Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal, District Welfare Officer Ramesh Bansal and HRTC Divisional Manager Vivek Lakhanpal were among those present at the event.
