HP varsity to introduce awards for best researchers, says VC

Himachal Pradesh University would introduce Best Researcher Awards for teachers and research scholars who produce outstanding academic work, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh said on Thursday. He made the announcement while addressing a one-day workshop on “Unlocking Academic Repositories: Shodhganga & Plagiarism Awareness”, organised by the university’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

Singh, the chief guest at the event, stressed all research undertaken at the university must be of high quality and capable of being published in reputed national and international journals. He said the university was compiling valuable research data from various disciplines, which would help shape future research directions.

He added the university was planning to support outstanding students by enabling them to undergo training in world class labs to learn advanced techniques. Referring to the five newly established centres, Singh urged faculty members — particularly those from social sciences — to actively engage with these units. He said the university expected every teacher and research scholar to publish at least one quality research paper each year, which he said would strengthen both individual capability and the institution’s research reputation.

Over 500 teachers and research scholars attended the workshop.
