HPCA seeks blessings of Indru Nag for IPL matches in Dharamsala

In a unique blend of cricket, spirituality and tradition, officials from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) visited the temple of Indru Nag, a revered local deity in Dharamsala, on Sunday morning. The visit was to perform a havan and puja, a ritual steeped in tradition. Indru Nag is believed to control the weather in the region, and the HPCA’s visit was part of a long-established custom to seek the deity’s blessings for favourable weather conditions during the upcoming IPL matches at the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium.

HPCA Secretary Avnish Parmar along with his team offered prayers at the temple, wishing for the smooth and trouble-free conclusion of the matches. Colonel (Retd.) HS Manhas, the Administrator of the HPCA, spoke to The Tribune, explaining, “Following the custom, we have come here to seek the blessings of Indru Nag. In the past, there have been instances when heavy rains fell near the stadium, but the matches continued unhindered, providing great relief to us.”

The tradition of seeking blessings from Lord Indru Nag before significant cricket events at the Dharamsala stadium has been long-standing. The deity, associated with rain and weather, is believed to play a key role in ensuring that the weather remains favourable during major matches. After the event, a similar ceremony will be held to express gratitude for the successful and uninterrupted hosting of the games.
