HPSEBL snaps power supply to Nurpur’s tehsil office over unpaid bills

The HPSEBL’s electrical sub-division today disconnected the electricity supply to the tehsil office complex in Nurpur due to unpaid bills totalling Rs 54,32,229. The sudden disconnection of power supply disrupted essential revenue-related operations at the office, causing numerous applicants, who had come for services such as affidavit attestations, sale deed registrations, will deeds, and other revenue work related works, to leave empty-handed.

According to Assistant Engineer Bhupinder Singh, the tehsil office had received a defaulter notice for outstanding dues amounting to Rs 53,25,812 on December 5 last year, with a 30-day deadline to clear the dues. However, the payment was not made and the outstanding balance has now risen to Rs 54,32,229. He mentioned that multiple defaulter notices had been issued last year, and a similar notice was sent to the SDM office in Nurpur for its outstanding dues of around Rs 42 lakh.

Sources reveal that the outstanding bills have been accumulating since 2017, prompting the HPSEBL to issue repeated defaulter notices and take action to disconnect power to defaulter consumers, including government offices. The state authorities of the HPSEBL have instructed local electrical sub-divisional officers to enforce power disconnections of defaulter consumers.

Nurpur Tehsildar Radhika Saini said after receiving the defaulter notices, she had repeatedly written to the DC requesting funds to clear the dues. She said another letter was submitted to the DC today, urging prompt action.
