The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has announced plans to construct grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) plants on its vacant land and non-residential buildings to bolster its financial standing. The proposal was approved during a meeting of the Board’s Whole Time Directors.

Under this initiative, HPSEBL will establish both ground-mounted and rooftop solar plants across various electricity circles and divisional offices, following the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. The RESCO model will allow HPSEBL to avoid the upfront costs of installation, maintenance, and financial management of the solar plants. In return, the board will acquire power at more affordable rates by utilising its vacant land.

For the first phase, HPSEBL has identified sites with the potential to generate 19 MW of solar energy. The board has also approved the bidding process to expedite the implementation of this project.
