HPU music students win six awards at youth festival

Students, faculty of HPU’s music department meet VC Prof Mahavir Singh after winning prizes at the youth festival in Shimla on Monday.

Prof Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), congratulated the students of the department of music who brought laurels to the university by securing six awards out of nine competitions at the HPU Youth Festival (group-2). The event was held at the College of Excellence, Sanjauli, Shimla, from November 4 to 7.

The department of music bagged first position in sitar (solo) and second positions in classical vocal (solo), western solo, western group song, light music (ghazal) and Indian group song.

Speaking with the students, Prof Singh said music is the language of the soul, nurturing sensitivity and creativity in human beings. “The students of Himachal Pradesh University have proved dedication and disciplined practice always lead to success. I extend congratulations to all the students and teachers and wish them continued success in bringing glory to the university at national and international levels,” he said.

Prof Mamta Mokta (dean, students’ welfare), Prof Jeet Ram (chairman, department of music), Dr Rajeev, Dr Mrityunjay, Dr Madan, Dr Kirti, Dr Kamlesh, along with non-teaching staff members and students, were present on the occasion.
