For the first time in its history, the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) handball team finished as the runner-up in the All India Inter-University Handball (Men’s) Championship, held at Gayatri College of Education in Kangoo village, Sundernagar, Mandi.
In a closely contested final, Punjabi University, Patiala, edged past HPU with a narrow 28-26 victory to claim the championship title. Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, secured third place in the tournament.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for HPU, as it is the university’s first-ever runner-up finish at the All-India level in handball.
Congratulating the team on their remarkable performance, HPU Vice-Chancellor Prof SP Bansal, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajender Singh Verma, and Director of Physical Education and Youth Affairs Prof Sanjay Sharma extended their best wishes for the players’ future endeavours.
