In a major step towards fostering cooperation in academic research, digital infrastructure and skill development, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Education and Research Network (ERNET) India, Delhi.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Prof Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor (VC), HPU, who said the MoU would benefit not only the university but also its affiliated colleges. “This agreement will not remain a mere formality but will be implemented in practice, bringing tangible benefits to both institutions. The five newly established research centres at HPU will also gain immensely from this collaboration,” he added.
Dr Sanjeev Banzal, Director General, ERNET India, said the organisation, an autonomous scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has been connecting academic and research institutions across India through innovative intranet and internet solutions. “ERNET India provides network infrastructure services and connectivity to enhance efficiency in the research and education sector,” he noted.
Highlighting the collaboration, Dr Banzal said, “HPU is deeply engaged in research and training across engineering, sciences and management, including emerging fields like networking, IoT, quantum communications, cybersecurity, AI and machine learning. The MoU will allow HPU to leverage ERNET’s services — such as domain registration, campus Wi-Fi and Eduroam — and jointly develop proposals for indigenous solutions. It will also facilitate advanced information dissemination, cybersecurity initiatives and postgraduate-level projects with expert guidance.”
