Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS)-DRDO, New Delhi, to foster joint advancement in biological, chemical and physical sciences, alongside engineering disciplines relevant to both defence and civilian sectors.
The partnership would focus on enhancing research, training and innovation in CBRN sciences, healthcare technologies, and capacity-building initiatives. It is expected to bolster national preparedness and elevate academic research capabilities, supporting the development of cutting-edge solutions for both defence and civilian applications.
Under the MoU, the institutions would collaborate on joint research projects, DRDO-funded initiatives, student internships and training at DRDO facilities, shared access to laboratories and research infrastructure, visiting faculty opportunities for DRDO scientists at HPU, collaborative academic programmes, innovation activities and capacity-building initiatives.
The agreement was signed by Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor of HPU, in the presence of Sudhir Chandna, Director of INMAS-DRDO, along with Rajeev Goel and Himanshu Ojha, both Scientist F.
Mahavir Singh described the collaboration as a long-cherished goal realised. He said HPU would actively submit joint interdisciplinary project proposals across sciences, social sciences, management, law, and engineering, ensuring coordinated, inclusive and holistic institutional growth. He added that the initiative aligns with the state government’s mission of making Himachal Pradesh a green and progressive state.
Chandna highlighted the need for basic research innovations from universities and encouraged HPU faculty and research scholars to submit project proposals in biomedical sciences, defence technologies and other fields central to INMAS-DRDO’s mandate.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Rajinder Verma, Dean of Studies BK Shivram, Dean of Student Welfare Mamta Mokta, and Dean of Teaching and Planning Joginder Singh Dhiman were also present. Research scholars from the departments of physics, chemistry and biosciences engaged with the DRDO delegation to explore future collaboration opportunities.
