The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has decided to implement all notifications of the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) from this academic year.

The decision was taken at the first regular meeting of the Executive Council (EC) in 2024 held at the university here today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Prakash Bansal.

At the meeting, the members congratulated the VC and the university community for the grant of Rs 100 crore that the university has received under MERU.

During the meeting, the Council decided to give one extra chance to all those students who could not pass the examination within the stipulated time. the decision was taken so that all the students who passed the examination could get the degrees.

The council decided to soon reserve four seats for boys and four for girls in the hostel for the beneficiaries of Sukhashraya Yojana for which the decision for making an allotment system would be taken soon.

It also decided to start coaching for civil services from April. This coaching would be organised by a reputed institute.

The EC also gave its nod to appoint four new Assistant Professors in the Department of Forensic and Biotechnology Sciences. It was also decided to include officials of various organisations in the committee for housing allotment of non-teaching staff and one official in the committee.

The Council further decided that assistant and associate professors of colleges will be able to become external examiners for the examinations of practical subjects of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects.
