The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) organised a two-day national workshop on quantum computing and artificial intelligence, drawing participation from over 100 students, faculty members and research scholars from various departments and universities across the country.

The workshop, sponsored by PM USHA-MERU (Multi-disciplinary Education and Research Universities component of the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan), marks a significant milestone as it is the first workshop on quantum computing ever held at HPU.

Prof Joginder Singh Dhiman, Dean, Planning and Teachers’ Matters, graced the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, he lauded the department’s efforts for its proactive academic initiatives and urged participants to stay aligned with the rapidly evolving frontiers of computational sciences. He emphasised that understanding emerging technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence is essential for shaping the next generation of scientific innovation.

The guest of honour, Prof Nainjeet Singh, Director, Research and Development Cell, encouraged faculty and students to explore the vast research potential of these advanced domains.
