Fourteen persons sustained minor injuries when the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus they were travelling in skid off and plunged 60 feet into a gorge near Baghar Kenchi near Huli in Theog sub division of Shimla district today morning.

The bus (HP 03B 6053) was on its way from Jarai to Theog when the mishap occurred. The locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation along with police. The injured are under treatment at community health centres at Kotkhai and Theog.

This is the second accident involving an HRTC bus since yesterday. On Wednesday, one person was killed while 22 others were injured in the bus accident in Hiranagar in the outskirts of Shimla city.

An analysis of the last five years’ database of “roll down” accidents by the police had revealed that such accidents happen due to lack of crash barriers along the roads. A total of 3020 “roll down” accidents took place in Himachal in the last five years 2017-2021, in which 2,633 lives were lost and 6,792 persons got injured.
