The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) drivers and conductors have threatened to go on a 72-hour strike from Sunday midnight if the government fails to release the promised Rs 59 crore towards their pending night overtime dues for the last 65 months.

“We were called for a meeting by the management today evening after we gave a notice for strike today. Nothing came out of the meeting. Unless the government releases Rs 59 crore, the HRTC buses will stop plying from Sunday midnight,” said Maan Singh, president of the Drivers and Conductors Union.

Maan Singh said that dues amounting to Rs 107 crore were pending with government. “The CM had announced that Rs 59 crore would be released towards the payment of our night overtime dues. However, the management is saying Rs 5 crore has been released, and rest of the amount will be released gradually. It’s not acceptable to us,” said Maan Singh.

On Wednesday, the Union had a meeting with HRTC vice-chairman Ajay Verma over the issue but that also ended without any resolution.
