HRTC income rises by Rs 63.4 cr in 8 months
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the income of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) had increased by Rs 63.47 crore in the first eight months of the year.
Sukhu, while presiding over a meeting of the HRTC here, said that the government was making earnest efforts to make the corporation a self-reliant and viable organisation. “The HRTC is the lifeline of the state due to limited transportation means. Everyday about five lakh people travel in HRTC buses,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that the government had given around Rs 60 crore every month to the HRTC over the past two years and salaries and pension were being paid in time to the employees and the pensioners. He added that the government had set a timeline for transforming the HRTC into ‘Green HRTC’ by March 31, 2026.
He said that the HRTC could play a key role in achieving the vision of 'Green Himachal' and conserving the environment of the state for future generations. “The entire fleet of HRTC’s diesel buses is being converted into e-buses and the government has also allocated Rs 327 crore for the purchase of electric buses,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that due to the government's efforts, HRTC buses had become a symbol of comfort and attraction for passengers. “The true strength of the HRTC lies in professionalism and dedication of its employees, who perform their duties day and night,” he added.
