HRTC leads the way in scrapping old vehicles

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is leading the way in e-auctioning of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and scraped materials through Metal Scrap Trade Corporation Portal.

As per notification of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), all government vehicles older than 15 years would be e-auctioned on the MSTC’s portal through Registered Vehicles Scrapping Facility (RVSF).

According to the information shared by the HRTC officials, the corporation took the initiative and registered on the scrapping portal in July 2023. In the first instance, HRTC sold/e-auctioned 163 ELVs consisting of 124 buses, 26 light vehicles, a crane, five trucks, six tankers and one exhibition van in October 2023, and more in subsequent months. It received a sum of Rs 2.84 crore, becoming the first organisation within the state for successful implementation of e-auction of the ELVs through the MSTC.

In January, the HRTC again conducted e-auction of 114 ELVS (101 buses, eight light vehicles, a truck, an exhibition van and three autorickshaws) on the portal through RVSF. Of this, 90 ELVs have been e-auctioned /sold for a sum of Rs 1.55 crore.

In addition to the above, the HRTC auctioned unserviceable tyres, tubes and flaps in December 2024, for Rs 1.52 crore. Of this, Rs 38.84 lakh has been received and rest of the amount would be realised from the highest bidder.
