After disruption of over a month due to heavy snowfall, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) resumed its bus service between Manali and Keylong in the Lahaul-Spiti district today. The bus service on this vital route had been suspended since February 19 because of severe weather conditions, leaving the residents of the Lahaul valley without essential transportation links.
In a similar development, the HRTC also resumed its bus service between Keylong and Udaipur yesterday, offering much-needed relief to the residents of the valley. The restoration of these services is a crucial step in reconnecting Lahaul Valley with the rest of the state, which had been cut off from regular transportation for several weeks due to the harsh winter weather.
Ayush, the officiating Regional Manager of the HRTC Depot at Keylong, confirmed that both the Manali-Keylong and Udaipur-Keylong routes are now operational. He also mentioned that a bus trial on the Keylong-Darcha route is scheduled for today. If the trial is successful, bus service on this route is expected to resume within a day or two, further improving connectivity in the region.
The resumption of these bus services has been welcomed by the residents of Lahaul Valley, who had been facing significant challenges in commuting and accessing essential services. The buses provide vital connectivity for the residents, especially for those traveling for medical, educational, and other personal needs.
Locals have expressed their appreciation for the prompt action taken by the HRTC in restoring transportation services, which has helped alleviate the difficulties faced by the community due to the snow-bound conditions. With the upcoming restoration of the Keylong-Darcha route, it is expected that transportation in the region will be fully functional, offering much-needed convenience and accessibility to the residents of Lahaul-Spiti district.
